The full title of this picture is "Random shapes in random patterns coloured in with random colours", which once again suggests the art of doodling, or perhaps the non-art. On the other hand, it would make an excellent stained-glass window in a secular building, or even perhaps in a Reform Synagogue, which is often the same thing.
Beyond the bad jokes, this was also an experiment with repeated forms, repeated shapes, repeated patterns, and at the same time variations of form, shape and pattern. The trick lies in the very small degrees of individual variation, which lead to a very considerable degree of both sameness and difference in the totality of the four panels.
